About

A little about me.

I’m a DevOps Engineer at Swisscom in Switzerland.

Getting into computers.

I first got into computers because of my mother. One day, she taught me how to take a computer apart and put it back together. From then on, I saw computers as a very expensive and complicated Lego set.

I loved understanding how the pieces fitted together, what each part did and what happened when you changed something.

I’d always enjoyed logic problems too. Programming at school brought the two interests together: we were given a problem and the freedom to work out our own approach.

I enjoyed experimenting, getting stuck and eventually finding a solution that worked. That’s what hooked me on programming, and I still enjoy that process today.

Working with other people.

I enjoy figuring out why something isn’t working and finding a practical way to fix it. Seeing that work become something people actually use is particularly satisfying.

Some problems are too large for one person to solve well. I like discussing ideas with colleagues, questioning our assumptions and working towards a solution together.

I value people who take responsibility and help each other. Being able to say “I don’t know yet” matters to me, especially when it’s followed by a willingness to investigate.

My experience and technical background

Studying alongside work.

Alongside my work at Swisscom, I’m studying part-time for a Global Online MBA at Warwick Business School.

The course covers strategy, finance and leadership, adding to my software-engineering background.

Outside work.

CrossFit

CrossFit is how I stay active. Almost every class is a struggle in some way, but that’s part of what I enjoy about it. Getting through a difficult workout and noticing myself getting stronger over time is satisfying.

Travel

We try to see more of the world every year. I love trying unfamiliar food, meeting people and seeing how everyday life differs from place to place. Travelling also reminds me how much people have in common.

Boating

Boating is one of my favourite ways to spend a weekend: swimming, being outside and spending time with people I care about. Being out on a Swiss lake surrounded by mountains still doesn’t feel ordinary, no matter how often we go.
